Official French Diplomas

DILF

The DILF ( Diplôme Initial de Langue Française ) is a diploma awarded by the French Ministry of Education that assesses candidates with a A1.1 level in French. It evaluates the 4 core language skills (listening, reading, speaking and writing). The DILF is the  first qualification a candidate needs to obtain before moving onto the DELF and DALF exams. DELF

Next, the DELF ( Diplôme d’Études en Langue Française ) is a group of official qualifications awarded by the French Ministry of Education. The DELF is composed of 4 independent diplomas that cater to 4 different levels (A1, A2, B1 and B2). Each diploma evaluates the 4 core language skills (listening, reading, speaking and writing). Candidates outside of France with a level A1, A2, B1 or B2 in French are eligible to take this test. Find your nearest test centre and more information here.

DELF Pro

The DELF Pro ( Diplôme d’Études en Langue Française Professionnel ) is the professional version of the DELF. Also awarded by the French Ministry of Education, the DELF Pro is composed of 4 independent qualifications that cater to 4 different levels (A1, A2, B1 and B2). Each qualification evaluates the communication skills needed for all aspects of a professional working life. The DELF Pro is aimed at candidates seeking employment within a French speaking work environment, but those who are in initial training or continuing education are also eligible to apply. DALF

The DALF ( Diplôme Approfondi de Langue Française ) is a qualification awarded by the French Ministry of Education that assesses advanced learners with a C1 and C2 level in French. It evaluates the 4 core language skills (listening, speaking, reading and writing). The DALF is composed of 2 independent diplomas that cater to 2 different levels (C1 and C2). DELF Prim

The DELF Prim ( Diplôme d’Études en Langue Française ) is a diploma awarded by the French Ministry of Education to children aged 7-12 learning French as a foreign language at primary school. It evaluates candidates who have a level A1.1, A1 or A2 in French. Find your nearest test centre in France or outside of France.

DELF Junior

The DELF Junior ( Diplôme d’Études en Langue Française ) is a diploma awarded by the French Ministry of Education to minors aged 12-17 learning French in secondary school. It evaluates candidates who have a level A1 to B2 in French. Find your nearest test centre in France or outside of France.

DELF Scolaire

The DELF Scolaire ( Diplôme d’Études en Langue Française ) is the same qualification as the DELF Junior. If there’s an agreement between local educational authorities and your country’s French embassy, it’ll come under the name of DELF Scolaire. DAEFLE

The DAEFLE ( Diplôme d’Aptitude à l’Enseignement du Français Langue Étrangère ) is a language diploma offered by the Alliance Française Paris-Ile-de-France in partnership with CNED. The DAEFLE is a professional training programme aimed at teachers or future teachers wishing to teach French as a foreign language. Most of it takes place online and candidates can either complete their training in 10 months (480 hours + 6 modules) or have it spread out over 2, 3 or 4 years  (1 or more modules). TCF DAP

The TCF DAP ( Test de Connaissance du Français pour la Demande d’Admission Préalable ) is a specialised version of the TCF exam that allows candidates to study in France. It’s aimed at candidates who wish to enroll to study in France and who do not hold a DELF B2 or a DALF qualification. Search for your nearest test centre here.

DFP

The DFP ( Diplôme de Français Professionnel ) is an exam that allows the candidate to go on and obtain French diplomas in specialised areas. This exam is aimed at those whose professional work involves oral or written communication in French. Find your nearest test centre here.

Official French Diplomas for Emigration and Nationality Purposes

TCF ANF

The TCF ANF is a specialised version of the Test de Connaissance du Français and is intended for those wishing to obtain French nationality by naturalisation, reintegration or by declaration of nationality by reason of marriage. The TCF ANF meets the new requirements introduced by the French Ministry that set the level of proficiency for any naturalisation application at a minimal B1 level. TCF for the French resident card

This test is a specialised version of the Test de Connaissance du Français and is intended for those under the age of 65 whom wish to acquire a long-term resident card or a card bearing the words “long-term resident – EU” for the first time. This version of the TCF meets the new requirements introduced by the French Ministry that set the level of proficiency for any resident card applicants at a minimal A2 level. TCF Canada

The TCF Canada is a specialised version of the Test de Connaissance du Français and is intended for those wishing to emigrate to Canada (any province outside of Quebec). It meets the IRCC‘s standards and allows successful candidates to immigrate and obtain Canadian citizenship. Find your nearest test centre here.

TCF Quebec

The TCF Quebec is a specialised version of the Test de Connaissance du Français and is intended for those wishing to emigrate to Quebec. By request of the Ministry of Immigration and Cultural Communities of Quebec, this test evaluates the candidate’s level in French. It’s composed of 2 compulsory modules (oral expression and listening comprehension) and 2 optional modules (reading comprehension and written expression). Find your nearest test centre here.

TEF ANF

The TEF ANF ( Test d’Évaluation de Français pour l’Accès à la Nationalité Française ) is a specialised version of the TEF and is intended for those wishing to obtain French nationality. Ordered by the French Ministry of the Interior, this exam assesses the candidate’s level of spoken and written French (comprehension and expression).  Find your nearest test centre here.

TEF CANADA

The TEF CANADA is a specialised version of the Test d’Évaluation de Français and is intended for Canadian immigration purposes. A requirement on behalf of the IRCC, the test evaluates the proficiency of applicants who belong to the category “skilled workers”.  Find your nearest test centre here.

TEFaQ

The TEFaQ is a specialised version of the Test d’Évaluation de Français   and is intended for Quebec immigration purposes. A requirement on behalf of the MICCQ, the test evaluates the candidate’s level of reading, listening, speaking and writing in French. French Proficiency Tests and Certifications

TCF

The TCF ( Test de Connaissance du Français ) is a French language proficiency test accredited by the Ministry of Education aimed at those who wish to evaluate and have their level of French certified for personal, academic or professional reasons. The test is graded and the candidate’s level of French is ranked at a A1, A2, B1, B2, C1 or C2 level. The TCF is made up of 3 compulsory tests (listening comprehension, command of lexical and grammatical structures and reading comprehension) and 2 optional tests (written expression and oral expression). DCL FLE

The DCL FLE ( Diplôme de Compétence en Langue ) is a national professional diploma that allows companies/employers to ensure the language skills of prospective employees. It can be taken by job seekers, vocational trainees and students to meet the language requirements of the professional world. TEF

The TEF ( Test d’Évaluation de Français ) is an internationally recognised benchmark test that assesses your level of French-language skills in writing and speaking. It’s offered to foreign students wanting to study in France or in Canada, and to those who need to prove their level of French for work, internships or study abroad programs. The TEF consists of 5 tests (oral comprehension, written comprehension, oral expression, written expression, vocabulary and syntax). Le Certificat Voltaire

The Certificat Voltaire is an exam with the aim to certify your level of French grammar and spelling. The certificate is intended to prove a candidate’s proficiency in written French for professional or personal reasons. The exam can be taken in these centres.

Certification Le Robert

The Certification Le Robert is a global certification that assesses your French spelling, grammar, expression and vocabulary. The exam takes place online and you are able to receive the results an hour later.

FEDE French Language Certificate

The FEDE French Language Certificate is based on the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages and officially recognised by the Institut de la Francophonie pour l’Éducation et la Formation. It evaluates your written and oral comprehension and expression. This certificate is aimed at students and professionals looking for a certification which is adapted to the business world.
